BATON ROUGE – Garrett Brumfield has been named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week for his performance in LSU’s 27-0 season-opening win over BYU, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Brumfield, a junior from University High School in Baton Rouge, earned the award in what was the first start of his career. Brumfield played 70 offensive snaps at left guard, leading the Tigers with 12 knockdown blocks in the win over the Cougars. For the game, LSU racked up 26 first downs and 479 yards of total offense (296 rushing, 183 passing).

LSU didn’t allow a sack in the game and the Tigers had only three negative yardage plays. LSU’s offense ran 75 total plays and held the ball for 41 minutes and 54 seconds.

The honor is the first of Brumfield’s college career and the first individual award for the Tigers this year.

LSU returns to action on Saturday, hosting Chattanooga at 6:30 p.m. in Tiger Stadium
