LSUE posts 21-run shutout to complete weekend sweep of Kellogg

EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice baseball continued its hot start to the season with a 21-0 mercy rule victory over Kellogg CC in seven innings on Sunday at Bengal Stadium. No. 1 LSUE (17-0) outscored the 11th-ranked Bruins 64-6 over the four game series.

The Bengals used an 11-run second inning to do the majority of their damage, with nine of the 11 runs coming with two outs. LSUE used seven hits and three errors in the inning, including Jack Merrifield’s three RBIs and two runs scored in the inning alone. The sophomore would go a perfect 3-for-3 on the afternoon.

LSUE would score in five of its six at bats including an opening four-run frame. Jarrett McDonald capped off a productive weekend with a two-run double to put LSUE on the board first. McDonald went a perfect 3-for-3 on the afternoon with three RBIs and two runs scored. On the weekend, the sophomore went 6-for-8 with six RBIs and eight runs scored.

Hunter Tabb would collect a team-high four hits to pace the Bengals’ 19-hit attack. Tabb, McDonald, Merrifield, Christian Gonzalez and Bryce LaRocca would have multi-hit games.

Logan Gray picks up his first win with LSUE as the redshirt freshman made his first start. Gray threw two perfect innings, striking out three batters. The Bengals would empty the bullpen, throwing six arms over the final five frames.

LSU Eunice will hit the road for a three-pack of games in Beeville, Texas. The Bengals will face South Suburban College on Saturday at 3:00PM, followed by the homestanding Coastal Bend College afterwards. The weekend will close with a single game against Coastal Bend.
