For the first time since 2000, LSU was not ranked in the USA Today/AFCA football preseason coaches poll.

After two straight non-winning seasons and a coaching change this past offseason, the Tigers enter the 2022 season under head coach Brian Kelly as a team receiving votes. LSU received the 30th most votes in the preseason poll of 65 FBS head coaches.

Alabama is ranked No. 1 while defending national champion Georgia is ranked No. 3. Six SEC schools are ranked including four LSU opponents this season from the West division (Alabama, Texas A&M, Arkansas and Ole Miss.).
