LSU head coach Ed Orgeron announced Monday that quarterback Myles Brennan suffered a left arm injury that will require surgery.

“Myles Brennan suffered a severe injury that will require surgery,” Orgeron said. “His timeline is yet to be determined. Myles has done everything we have asked of him this summer and was in the fight to be the starting quarterback at LSU.”

Brennan, a right-handed throwing a senior from Long Beach, Mississippi, started LSU’s first three games last year, passing for 1,112 yards and 11 touchdowns before an injury against Missouri sidelined him for the remainder of the season.

With Brennan sidelined, LSU has just two quarterbacks on scholarship healthy currently. True sophomore Max Johnson likely has the inside track to be the starter for the Tigers while true freshman Garrett Nussmeier moves up to be the primary backup.

If a timely return is not in the cards for Brennan, LSU could enter their season opener Sept. 4 at UCLA uncomfortably thin at its most important position.
