LSU QB Daniels, Tulane LB Williams and returner Jackson earn LSWA weekly honors

LAKE CHARLES – LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels was named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week after his performance in leading the Tigers to a 45-20 whipping on then-No. 7 Ole Miss on Saturday. Tulane linebacker Dorian Williams and punt returner Jha’Quan Jackson earned Defensive and Special Teams honors as the then-25th ranked Green Wave downed Memphis 38-28.
The honor is the third for Daniels on the season while Williams and Jackson pick up their first state weekly award.
Players of the week are voted on by a panel of LSWA sports writers from a ballot of nominees made by school sports information directors.
OFFENSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Jayden Daniels, QB, LSU
Result: W, 45-20 vs. #7 Ole Miss
Stat Line: 21-28 passing for 248 yds and 2 TD, 23 carries for 121 yds and 3 TD
Info: Accounted for 5 TDs (3 rush, 2 pass) in leading LSU to a 45-20 win over No. 7 Ole Miss in Tiger Stadium … Completed 21-of-28 passes for 248 yards and added 121 rushing yards … Scored on runs of 3, 11, an 17 yards and threw TD passes of 34 and 1 yard … Broke LSU single-season records for rushing TDs by a quarterback (9) and rushing yards by a quarterback (524) … Down 17-3 early in second quarter, LSU outscored Ole Miss, 42-3, for the remainder of the game, including 28-0 in the second half … LSU’s offense racked up 35 first downs and 500 total yards in the win.

Stat Line: 12 TKL, Sack, PBU, 2 QB Hurries
Info: Williams had a team-high 12 tackles, including a sack to go with a pass breakup and two quarterback hurries to lead the Green Wave defense in Saturday’s 38-28 win over Memphis at Yulman Stadium. Eight of the Indian Land, S.C. native’s stops were of the solo variety as the unit shut out the Tigers in the first half. Williams has 59 tackles this season, a figure that leads the team.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Jha’Quan Jackson, PR/WR, Tulane
Result: W, 38-28 vs. Memphis
Stat Line: 90-yard punt return for TD
Info: Jackson ripped off a 90-yard punt return for touchdown at the 8:09 mark of the first quarter in Tulane’s 38-28 win over Memphis on Saturday. The play was the second-longest punt return in school and American Athletic Conference history. It was also the Green Wave’s first punt return for a score since Fred Smith pulled it off against UAB in 2004. Jackson also had an eight-yard rush and two catches for 22 yards on the offensive side.
