BATON ROUGE – LSU linebacker Devin White added another honor to his list on Tuesday as the sophomore was named the Chuck Bednarik Award National Player of the Week, the Maxwell Football Club announced.

The Bednarik National Player of the Week is voted on by members of the Maxwell Football Club National Selection Committee and recognizes a player for outstanding defensive play.

White, one of many underclassmen playing key roles for the Tigers, led a gritty comeback performance by LSU on Saturday against Auburn with a career-best 15 tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, one sack and a quarterback hurry. White registered his fifth straight game with double-digit tackles as the Tigers rallied from a 20-0 first half deficit to knock off 10th-ranked Auburn, 27-23.

White was the catalyst for an LSU defense that held Auburn scoreless and to only 64 total yards, six passing yards and four first downs in the second half. Auburn led 17-0 after the first quarter and 20-0 early in the second quarter before White and the LSU defense stiffened and the Tiger offense and special teams mounted a rally.

The Bednarik Award is the second honor for White in as many days as the Springhill, La., native was tabbed as the Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for his performance against Auburn.

Through seven games, White leads the SEC in both tackles (77) and tackles per game (11.0). He ranks third nationally in total tackles.

White and his LSU teammates return to action on Saturday as the Tigers look for their third straight SEC win when they face Ole Miss in Oxford. Kickoff between the Tigers and Rebels is set for 6:15 p.m. on ESPN.
