The news continues to be good for LSU football recruiting.

Coach Ed Orgeron received a commitment Friday morning from four-star outside linebacker Zavier Carter of Hapeville Charter in Atlanta – the same high school that produced former Tiger edge rusher Arden Key who played a role in his recruitment. Carter has maintained a relationship with Key despite the five to six year age gap.

Carter is a lanky 6-foot-4 and 193 pounds with a frame that will fill out well over time. He has an explosive first step as a fierce rusher off the edge in either a two- or three-point stance. Carter uses his hands very well, displays consistent effort and is very instinctive. He can drop in coverage, showing fluidity in his hips with great length.

LSU and Alabama top the list of 26 impressive offers for Carter, who is ranked as the nation’s 15th-best outside linebacker and the 19th-best player in Georgia by the 247Sports composite ratings.

Georgia Tech may have been the most fierce competition for Carter. The Yellow Jackets assigned assistant coach and former NFL standout Marco Coleman along with receivers coach Kerry Dixon on the case to keep the hometown talent home but LSU combination of Bo Pelini and defensive line coach Bill Johnson managed to sway Carter.

Carter visited the LSU campus twice and loved the setting. He was drawn to the scheme Pelini will run, plus the personal touch that Orgeron brought to the recruiting process.

Carter maintains a 3.0 GPA. He tallied 41 tackles and four sacks last season.

LSU now has eight commitments for the class of 2021.
