*LSU (14-0), champions of the Southeastern Conference, will face Clemson (14-0) for the National Championship on Monday, Jan. 13 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. on ESPN.
*LSU will be after its fourth national title. LSU won national titles in 1958, 2003 and 2007.
*LSU is 14-0 for the first time in school history and will look to become just the second team in FBS history to go 15-0 in a season. Six of LSU’s 14 wins have come against teams ranked in the Top 10. Clemson will represent the seventh Top 10 LSU will face this year, the most of any team in college football history. Dating back to 2018, LSU has won 10 games, including seven straight, over Top 10 10 teams.
*LSU and Clemson meet for just the fourth time with the LSU Tigers holding a 2-1 advantage in the series. Every LSU-Clemson meeting has come during the postseason. The teams last played in the 2012 Chick-fil-A Bowl with Clemson winning, 25-24. Other meetings came in the 1959 Sugar Bowl (LSU won 7-0) and the 1996 Peach Bowl (LSU won 10-7).
*LSU goes into the contest having been ranked No. 1 in the AP Poll since Week 10 and No. 1 in the Coaches Poll since Week 12.
*The Tigers, winners of 15 straight dating back to last year, are coming off a 63-28 win over No. 4 Oklahoma in the CFP National Semifinal/Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. The 15-game winning streak ties for the second-longest winning streak in school history.
*Overall, LSU will be playing its 31st consecutive game as a Top 25 team. LSU has been a Top 25 team for 43 of the 48 games under Coach O with 22 of those coming as a Top 10 team.
*National Coach of the Year Ed Orgeron brings a 39-9 mark in 48 games as the Tiger coach into the contest. Of his 39 wins with the Tigers, 30 have come by double-figures, 11 have come against Top 10 teams and 17 have come against teams ranked in the Top 25.
*Coach O’s 39 wins through 48 games ranks as the second-most for any coach in LSU history over that span. Only Les Miles (40 wins in 48 games) won more games than Orgeron during the first 47 games of his LSU coaching career.
*Orgeron’s 11 Top 10 wins ranks second among all LSU head coaches, trailing only Les Miles (16 in 12 years). Orgeron is 11-3 against Top 10 teams at LSU.
*LSU has won at least 8 games for 20 straight seasons. The 20-year streak is the longest among Power 5 schools along with Oklahoma, and ranks second to only Boise State (21) among all FBS schools.
*Under Orgeron, LSU is 22-1 when having a 100-yard rusher, including a 6-0 mark in 2019, and the Tigers are 37-2 when reaching the 20-point mark.
*LSU leads the nation in total offense with 564.1 yards per game. In 14 games, the Tigers have gone over the 500-yard mark 11 times, which includes four 600-yard games and one 700-yard game.
*The Tigers are also No. 1 nationally in scoring offense (48.9) and redzone offense (68-of-70). The Tigers are No. 2 nationally in passing offense (397.2). LSU has scored 40 or more points a school-record 11 times, which includes five 50-point games and three 60-point games.
*LSU’s defense, which have allowed only 47 first quarter points all season, is giving up 21.6 points and 339.3 total yards (118.0 rushing, 221.9 passing) per game.
*LSU’s held its last three opponents, which includes a pair of Top 5 ranked teams, to a combined 45 points and 230 rushing yards.
*This year’s LSU offense is the first in the history of the college football to feature a 5,000-yard passer (Joe Burrow with 5,208 yards), a 1,000-yard rusher (Clyde Edwards-Helaire with 1,304), and two 1,000-yard receivers (Ja’Marr Chase with 1,559 and Justin Jefferson with 1,434).
*Heisman Trophy winning QB Joe Burrow is first player in SEC history to go over the 4,000-yard/40 TD mark and the 5,000-yard/50 TD mark. He’s the SEC single-season record holder for passing yards (5,208) and passing TDs (55).
*QB Joe Burrow leads the nation in passing TDs (55), completion percentage (77.6) and points responsible for (354), and he’s second nationally in passing yards (5,208), yards per game (372.0), and total offense (394.2).
*In 14 games, Burrow has completed 371-of-478 passes for 5,208 yards, 55 TDs and only six interceptions. He’s thrown at least one TD pass in 18 straight games and he’s gone over the 300-yard mark in 14 of the last 17 games.
*Biletnikoff Award winner Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson are both tied for the SEC single-season record with 18 receptions, which ranks No. 1 nationally. Chase has 75 receptions for 1,559 yards, while Jefferson has caught an SEC record 102 passes for 1,434 yards.
*TE Thaddeus Moss holds the LSU single-season record for both receptions (42) and receiving yards (534) by a tight end.
*RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire led the SEC in rushing TDs with 16 and he’s No. 4 in the league in total TDs (17). He rushed for 100+ yards in six of LSU’s nine SEC games. His 1,304 rushing yards are the third-most in the SEC.
*LB Jacob Phillips leads the Tigers in tackles with 105; OLB K’Lavon Chaisson is first on team in sacks (6.5) and tackles for loss (13.5).
*Consensus All-America CB Derek Stingley led the SEC in both interceptions (6) and passes defended (21).

LSU Wins First College Football Playoff Game; Clinches Spot in National Championship

* LSU’s defense has played its best football of the season over the past four games as the Tigers have allowed a combined 65 points in wins over Arkansas, Texas A&M, Georgia and Oklahoma.
*Over that 4-game span, the Tigers have allowed only 10 first quarter points and 23 in the first half.
*Against Georgia in the SEC title game, LSU held the Bulldogs to a season-low 10 points and to 286 total yards, well below its season average of 420.6. The Tigers limited Georgia to a season-low 61 rushing yards, 139 below its season average of 200.0 entering the contest.
*Against, Texas A&M, LSU held the Aggies to season lows for both points (7) and total yards (169). The Aggies entered the game averaging 32.7 points and 419.7 total yards per game.

LSU Sets School Record for Most 40-Point Games in School History
*LSU has now scored 40 or more points 11 times this year for a new school record.
*The 11 games with 40 or more points broke the record of nine set in 2011.
*LSU has scored 684 points in 14 games in 2019, which broke the record of 541 set in 2007.
*This is the third time in school history that LSU has scored more than 500 points in a season.
*LSU is tied with the 2018 Alabama team for the SEC record.
*LSU is averaging 48.9 points per game, which will break the record of 38 set in 2007.

Football Wins 12th SEC Championship in Rout of Georgia
*LSU claimed its 12th SEC Championship in a rout of Georgia, 37-10, in Atlanta.
*The victory marked the first time the Tigers have won the league title since 2011
*It’s the fifth SEC Championship for the program since the league adopted a championship game in 1992.
*LSU’s other SEC titles came in 1935, ’36, ’58, ‘61, ’70, ’86, ’88, 2001, ’03, ’07, ‘11 and this season.

LSU Becomes Third SEC Program to Go 14-0
*The 2019 LSU team is only the fifth team in SEC history and third program to go 14-0.
*With a win over Clemson, the Tigers would become the first team in SEC history to go 15-0.
*Alabama went 14-0 in 2009, 2016 and 2018 and 13-0 in 1992; Auburn went 14-0 in 2010 and 13-0 in 2004; Tennessee went 13-0 in 1998; LSU went 13-0 in 2011.
*LSU was only the ninth team in league history to reach the 13-0 mark.

With 841 first-place votes (893 ballots tabulated from 927 voters), Burrow set Heisman Trophy records for receiving the highest percentage of first-place votes in history (90.7 percent), broke O.J. Simpson’s largest margin of victory (1,846 points), earned the highest percentage of possible points (93.8 percent) and the highest percentage of ballots received (95.5 percent).

Delpit Takes Home Thorpe Award – Nation’s Top Defensive Back
*Junior safety Grant Delpit was named the winner of the Thorpe Award, which is presented to the top defensive back in college football.
*Delpit joined Patrick Peterson and Morris Claiborne as the only other LSU players to win the award.
*The consensus All-American in 2019 was also selected to the first team All-SEC by the league coaches.
*Delpit is fourth on the team with 59 tackles to go along with 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack and two interceptions.

Five Players Match Record for First Team All-Americans
*LSU matched the school record for first team All-America honors in 2019.

*Junior RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire rushed for 72 yards against Utah State, becoming the 50th player in school history to reach the 1,000-yard mark for his career.
*Edwards-Helaire currently has rushed for 1,993 yards in 40 games with the Tigers. He rushed for 31 yards as a true freshman in 2017, followed by 658 in 2018. He has rushed for 1,302 yards on 199 attempts in 14 games in 2019.
*Kevin Faulk, who is the director of player development for LSU football, holds the school record for rushing yards with 4,557.

Von Rosenberg Making Most of His Punts
*LSU punter Zach Von Rosenberg has only been called on to punt just 40 times this year, but the junior is making the most of his opportunities.
*On 40 punts, Von Rosenberg is averaging 42.5 yards a punt.
*Of his 40 punts, 18 have been downed inside the 20-yard line with 11 of those coming inside the 10-yard line.
*The LSU punt team did not make an appearance for the Tigers at Ole Miss. It marked the fifth time since 1960 that LSU has not punted in a game and the first time away from Tiger Stadium.

Wide Receivers Own Two, Same Game 100-Yard Receiving Performances
*LSU wide receivers Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase and Terrace Marshall Jr. have combined for three same game 100-yard receiving games, which is the second most in a season in school history.
*Jefferson, Chase and Marshall Jr. became the first trio with 100-plus receiving yards in a season at Texas.
*Jefferson and Chase then totaled 123 and 127 yards respectively against Florida and then 112 and 227 at Ole Miss.
*LSU also had two same game 100-yard receiving performances in 2000 and 2013.

*The LSU offense leads the nation in total offense and red zone offense. The Tigers are second in the nation in passing offense and first down offense.
*Joe Burrow is No. 1 in the nation in completion percentage (77.6 percent) and passing touchdowns (55) and second in and passing yards (5,208).
*LSU wide receivers Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase are amongst the best receivers in the nation. They are first in the nation in receiving touchdowns. Chase is second and Jefferson is third in the nation in receiving yards.

*Burrow along with running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire were named SEC Offensive Players of the Week after their performance at third-ranked Alabama. It’s just the third time players from the same team have shared SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors since the league established the weekly player of the week honors in 1985.
*Chase was awarded the SEC Offensive Player of the Week honor following his 8 reception, 227-yard, three touchdown performance at Ole MIss.

*As an offensive lineman, the rules of college football prevent Cushenberry III from actually wearing the No. 18 jersey so instead his No. 79 jersey will be accompanied by a No. 18 patch. The Carville native, who played locally at Dutchtown High School, will wear the No. 18 jersey at practice.
*Jersey No. 18 was born when, in 2003, quarterback Matt Mauck guided LSU to its first national championship since 1958.
