EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice plated seven runs in the sixth inning to push past Baton Rouge CC for a 12-7 victory on Friday at Bengal Stadium. LSUE (34-5) took its eighth straight game against the rival Bears.

The Bengals fell behind 5-1 before coming alive in the sixth inning. After Tristan Welch reached on an error, Nick Bellina would drive in Welch on a double to straight away center and later score on a balk to make it a 5-3 game. Following a Brooks Rushworth walk and Austin Kirkpatrick single, Javier Vaz knotted up the game with a two-run triple.

The freshman would give LSUE its first lead of the game after scoring on an errant pick-off attempt at third base from the BRCC catcher.

Jack Merrifield’s RBI single and a sacrifice bunt by Tristan Welch capped off the scoring as the Bengals lead swelled to 8-5.

Vaz would keep his hot bat going, scoring Kirkpatrick on a seventh inning double after Kirkpatrick bunting in a run.

BRCC answered with two runs in the eighth but the Bengals responded with a pair of their own that included a Slate Fuller RBI single.

The late blooming offense was the perfect pick-up for Andrew Sheridan. The LSUE ace was hit-up for four early runs in his six inning outing. Sheridan (W, 9-1) would pick up the win after scattering nine hits and two walks to go along with his three strikeouts. Tod Gauthe and Landon Clifton also saw action in relief.

River Town joined Vaz, Kirkpatrick, Fuller and Merrifield with mulita-hit games in LSUE’s 14-hit offense.

LSUE and BRCC has postponed Saturday’s scheduled game due to expected severe weather throughout south Louisiana. The two teams will meet again in Eunice on Sunday at 2:00PM, followed by a 6:00PM Monday make-up game in Baton Rouge.
