STERLINGTON, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball used a pair of big innings to ease its way past Southern Arkansas University Tech 12-2 in seven innings on Thursday at the Sterlington Sports Complex. The Bengals (15-0) got a pair of big games from Sterlington natives Parker Coley and Grant Mangrum in their return to their hometown.

LSUE saw itself in a 2-0 hole after SAU Tech struck for a first inning two-run home run. The Bengals would respond with authority in the third, striking for seven runs. The Bengals capitalized on six free passes and three errors in the inning as Coley and Mangrum produced the only base hit RBIs in the inning.

Coley singled home Zachary Thomas to make it 4-2 LSUE while Mangrum ended the third inning scoring with a two-run single.

LSUE exploded for a five-run inning in the sixth, ensuring the team’s ninth run-rule victory of the season. After the Bengals loaded the bases on three free passes, Thomas made the Rockets pay with a bases clearing double. Coley would follow that up two batters later with a two-run home run, his first of the season.

Coley and Thomas both drove in 3 RBIs to lead the LSUE attack.

Parker Webb would shake off the first inning jitters to record another solid outing to improve to 3-0 on the season. The freshman went six innings, giving up two earned runs off four hits and two walks. Webb also struck out five batters.

Nick Gisclair worked a scoreless seventh inning to preserve the mercy rule.

LSUE will stay in Sterlington to take on Mississippi Delta CC tomorrow for a 1:00PM doubleheader.
