Report: LSU DT Maason Smith out for season opener vs. Florida State due to suspension
LSU defensive tackle Maason Smith has been suspended for the season opener against Florida State, The Advocate’s Wilson Alexander reported on Wednesday.
The one-game NCAA suspension was levied due to receiving an improper benefit. Alexander reported that Smith cooperated with the investigation.
The 6-foot-6, 315-pound redshirt sophomore suffered a season-ending knee injury last year in the opening game vs. Florisa State in the Caesars Superdome. Smith, a product of Terrebonne High School, is a potential first round NFL draft pick next fall.
The Tigers face the Seminoles next Sunday, Sept. 3 in Orlando.
