Ali Gaye

Contrary to most of the news cycle in recent weeks, not everyone on the 2021 LSU football team has left the program.

Following the banner haul thus far they have enjoyed on the transfer portal, which 247 Sports has the Tigers perched in the top slot atop the FBS, some key veterans have decided to come back for another year as well.

The latest is dynamic defensive end Ali Gaye, who appeared headed to the NFL but instead shifted directions to stay in Baton Rouge for 2022.

The 6-foot-6, 260 pounder has had 14 starts for LSU the previous two years. He collected 32 tackles with 9.5 for losses and two sacks in the 2020 season but Gaye was limited to four games in 2021 due to a season ending injury. He still recorded 19 stops with 2.5 for losses and 2.5 sacks.

Gaye will team with B.J. Ojulari as bookend rushers, giving LSU one of the better edge duos returning this season.

Other key veterans who have recently confirmed their returns to the Tigers in 2022 are defensive back Jay Ward, linebacker Micah Baskerville and wide receiver Jaray Jenkins.
