BATON ROUGE – For Coach Will Wade and his LSU men’s basketball team, Friday begins 30 days of practice that will lead to the opening of the 2017-18 season on Friday, Nov. 10, against Alcorn State.

The first practice (closed to the public) is set for 3 p.m. in the practice facility at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Basketball teams are allowed 30 practice days in the 42 days prior to the opening game.

Coach Wade has a roster of 15 for his opening season as the head coach at LSU, his fifth overall as head coach after two at Chattanooga and two at VCU. Only graduate transfer Jeremy Combs has been declared officially out for a good part of the preseason practice because of ankle surgery.

Coach Wade was asked during his media session on Monday about changing the culture and buying-in to the LSU program after last year’s 10-21 season.

“There is a new normal,” Wade said. “They know what to expect now. They know what the new normal is and you either do it or you get left behind. They are very clear about what our standards are, where we are and that we are not bending on anything on our expectations.

“People want to be pushed and they want to reach their potential,” Coach Wade said. “Our guys are no different. I like the way our guys have worked for the most part. We have some guys that have worked very, very hard. I think nobody wants to be a loser. If you give them a map that says this is what helps us win, this is what wins, it’s proven that it has won, they will do it and especially when they see that they get better. I think that if you asked any of our guys they’d tell you they are in better shape, they are stronger, their basketball skills are a little bit better. They feel like they have improved. None of this works if they don’t feel like they are getting better. That is certainly a critical piece to what we are doing.”

Ticket information for the 2017-18 men’s basketball season is available at and season tickets start at just $100.

Also the SEC/ESPN Network announced the addition and game time changes for two non-conference games as they picked up the Dec. 13 game with Houston at 8 p.m. and the Dec. 16 game with Stephen F. Austin at Noon. Both games are in the Maravich Center.
