LSU 2020 Game Notes: First road game at Vanderbilt

* LSU (0-1, 0-1 SEC) returns to action on Saturday when the No. 17/20 Tigers travel to Nashville, Tenn., to face Vanderbilt (0-1, 0-1 SEC). Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT and will be televised on the SEC Network. LSU is ranked No. 17 in the Coaches Poll and No. 20 in the AP Poll.
* LSU is coming off a 44-34 loss to Mississippi State last week in Tiger Stadium, while Vanderbilt dropped a 17-12 decision to Texas A&M in College Station.
* LSU has won eight straight against Vanderbilt and leads the series with Commodores 23-7-1. Last year, LSU posted a 66-38 win over the Commodores in Nashville.
* LSU’s playing Vanderbilt in Nashville in back-to-back seasons for only the second time ever, the first since 1935-36.
* LSU was 5-0 in true road games last year and the Tigers have won nine straight games away from Tiger Stadium (5 true road games, 4 neutral site games).
* LSU coach Ed Orgeron is 40-10 is 50 games as head coach of the Tigers. His 40 wins through 50 games are the second-most among any coach in school history.
* Of his 40 wins with the Tigers, 31 have come by double-figures, 18 have come against teams ranked in the Top 25 with 12 of those coming against Top 10 opponents. Orgeron is 12-3 against Top 10 teams at LSU.
* LSU’s streak of games played as a Top 25 team reaches 33 straight this week against Vanderbilt. LSU has been ranked in the Top 25 for every contest dating back to the Tennessee game on Nov. 18, 2017. LSU is 27-5 during that span.
* LSU had 10 first-time starters in the season-opener against Mississippi State. The first-time starters featured 6 on offense and 5 on defense. First time starters included: C Liam Shanahan, TE Arik Gilbert, WR Kayshon Boutte, WR Racey McMath, QB Myles Brennan, DE Ali Gaye, DT Joseph Evans, LB Jabril Cox, CB Darren Evans, and DB Eli Ricks.
* WR Terrace Marshall Jr. has caught at least 1 TD pass in 9 of the 13 games that he’s started during his career. Marshall opened 2020 with 8 catches for 122 yard and 2 TDs.
* QB Myles Brennan connected on 27-of-46 passes for 345 yards and 3 TDs in his first career start. Brennan’s completions (27), attempts (46) and passing yards (346) against Mississippi State were the most for a first-time starter in LSU history.
* WR Jaray Jenkins – in the first extended action of his career – had 5 receptions for 85 yards in the season-opener.
* S JaCoby Stevens opened the season with 6 tackles, including 2.0 sacks, to go along with 2 fumble recoveries and a forced fumble.
* LB Damone Clarke had the first double-digit tackle game of his career on Saturday with 11 tackles against Mississippi State.
* LB Jabril Cox scored his first touchdown as a Tiger, returning an interception 14 yards for a score in the second quarter. It was the third TD of Cox’s collegiate career – he returned 2 interceptions for touchdowns at North Dakota State (both coming in 2018).
* Junior college transfer DE Ali Gaye opened season with 3 tackles, 1 sack for a 7-yard loss, another tackle for a 3-yard loss and batted down 3 passes in his LSU debut.
* LSU started 3 true freshmen in the season-opener (TE Arik Gilbert, WR Kayshon Boutte, DB Eli Ricks) and played a total of 7 true freshman (LB Josh White, WR Koy Moore, LB BJ Ojulari, and S Jordan Toles) .
