Loyola’s Myles Burns earns third SSAC player of week award of season

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Members of the top-ranked Loyola Wolf Pack men’s basketball team continue to rack up player of the week awards, and senior Myles Burns now leads the way after earning his league-best third honor Monday from the Southern States Athletic Conference. Burns was selected as this week’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after a double-double performance Sunday, giving the Wolf Pack five total SSAC weekly awards this season.

Senior Zach Wrightsil and sophomore Brandon Davis have also been named SSAC Player of the Week this season, and Monday was Burns’ fifth SSAC weekly award of his career.

Burns, who is averaging more than 12 points and eight rebounds per game, scored 16 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in a win over Fort Lauderdale Sunday. That was his fourth double-double performance of the season, too, and the 39th of his career. Burns also collected five assists, four steals and two blocks in the matinee contest.

The Houston, Texas, native leads the SSAC in rebounds per game (8.9) and steals per game (3.2), and he currently ranks third in the NAIA in both total steals (45) and total offensive rebounds (65).

Burns and the No. 1 Wolf Pack have started the season a program-best 14-0 and 3-0 in SSAC play, vaulting themselves to the No. 1 ranking in the latest NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. After Sunday’s non-conference win, Loyola is set to play three conference games this week starting with a 7:30 p.m. contest against Mobile at Tulane’s Devlin Fieldhouse. The Pack will also travel to Dalton State and No. 3 Talladega this Thursday and Saturday, respectively.
