Zach Wrightsil named January Athlete of the Month

Zach Wrightsil, a freshman forward for the Loyola University men’s basketball team, has been selected as the Greater New Orleans Amateur Athlete of the Month for January. Monthly award-winners are chosen in voting by the Greater New Orleans Sports Award Selection Committee, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

Gant, Hayes help lead Ragin’ Cajuns past Loyola, 97-84

JaKeenan Gant posted his second consecutive double-double, scoring a season-high 21 points while grabbing a career-best 13 rebounds while Jeremy Hayes came off the bench to score a season-high 18 points as the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns rolled to a 97-84 win over Loyola (N.O.) on Wednesday at the Cajundome.

McNeese stunned by Loyola in new home arena opener

McNeese opened up its new home for its men’s and women’s basketball programs on Friday night but it would be Loyola who celebrated the facility’s first victory as the Wolfpack stunned the Cowboys, 79-78, in front of 2,599 fans.
