STATS FCS Release

THIBODAUX, La. — Nicholls State University football’s Lorran Fonseca added an unprecedented fifth All-America honor as the junior placekicker was named to the 2017 STATS FCS All-America First Team, the organization announced Tuesday.

Fonseca’s first All-America honor was a third-team selected by the Association Press. He was also named first team by the FCS Athletic Directors Association (ADA) and Phil Steele, and second team by College Sports Madness.

A native Hercules, California, Fonseca led the FCS with 19 made field goals in his first season with the Colonels. He also ranked eighth in percentage in the FCS and had eight field goals of 40 yards or longer, including a career-long 50-yarder.

Fonseca finished the season 19 of 23 in field goal attempts and set two program records. His 19 field goals are the single-season record, and he broke the single-game mark with five field goals in a win over Abilene Christian.

The All-America team featured players from 54 schools and all 13 conferences. The Missouri Valley Football Conference led all conferences with 17 selections, while the Southland posted the second-most with 15.
