HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana men’s basketball team signed Odessa College transfer Joe Kasperzyk to the 2020-21 roster, second-year SLU head basketball coach David Kiefer announced Tuesday.

Kasperzyk (6-3, 180) joins the Lions after one season at Odessa College. The junior averaged 12.0 points and 2.1 assists for the Wranglers as a sophomore which was second on the team in both categories. The New Haven, Connecticut product also led the team in steals averaging 1.3 per contest.

“Joe adds more experience and depth to what we believe to be an already talented collection of guards we have,” said Kiefer. “Getting a player of Joe’s caliber late in the recruiting process is a steal. He is a playmaker that fits our style to a tee. He is crafty and athletic. He’s already had success at the prep, junior college and division one level so we know what he will bring to our program.”

The Lions’ signee helped guide Hillhouse High School in New Haven to back-to-back state champions in 2016 and 2017 with a combined record of 52-4 in the two years.

Kasperzyk joins an already talented SLU 2020-21 signing class that includes Jamon Kemp (6-6, 205, Seattle, Washington), Gus Okafor (6-6, 220, Baltimore, Maryland) and UMass transfer Keon Clergeot (6-1, 185, Inwood, Florida).
