Lions host doubleheader Friday in weather-altered series against Nicholls

HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana hosts the opening two games of a Southland Conference series Friday against rival Nicholls. Rescheduled out of concerns for inclement weather Thursday, the teams will now play a 2 p.m. doubleheader Friday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

Fans who already purchased tickets may use either their Thursday or Friday ticket for admission. A doubleheader ticket will be sold Friday and the stadium will not be cleared between games.

The series between the Lions (19-18, 10-5 Southland) and Nicholls (18-18, 9-9 Southland) wraps up Saturday at 2 p.m. at Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field in Thibodaux, Louisiana.

Between games of Friday’s doubleheader, the Easter Egg Hunt presented by Party Barn, originally scheduled for Super Lion Saturday, will be held at the ballpark.

All three games can be heard in the Hammond area on the flagship station of the Southeastern Sports Radio Network, KSLU 90.9 FM, online at and via both the Lions Gameday Experience and TuneIn Radio apps.

Coming off a 12-3 thrashing Tuesday of McNeese in nonconference action, the Lions enter the series 2.5 games behind first-place Sam Houston State (14-4 Southland) in the conference standings.

Southeastern is hitting .254 collectively, with 50 doubles, 12 triples, 28 home runs and 70 stolen bases. The Lion pitching staff has worked to a combined 4.73 ERA, striking out 317 batters in 327 innings. Opponents are hitting .255 off Southeastern pitching.

Kyle Schimpf (.296), Preston Faulkner (.295), Cody Grosse (.292), Nick Ray (.286) and Nathan Pilutti (.272) pace the Southeastern offensive attack. Faulkner and Schimpf are tied for the team lead with six home runs each, while Schimpf has driven in a team-high 36 runs. Grosse leads the Southland with 21 stolen bases.

With the late schedule change, neither team has announced its starting rotation for the series.

Champ Davison (.302), Chris Sandberg (.299) and Brady Bell (.290) are the Colonels’ leading hitters. Adam Tarver has hit a team-high four home runs and Austin France has driven in a team-leading 24 runs. Dane Simon leads the squad with 11 stolen bases.

Nicholls is hitting .259 as a team, with 47 doubles, six triples, 17 home runs and 36 stolen bases. The Colonel pitching staff has worked to a combined 3.41 ERA, striking out 262 batters in 324 innings. Opponents are hitting .245 off Nicholls pitching.

Southeastern wraps up its stretch against in-state competition Tuesday, traveling to New Orleans, Louisiana, for a 6:30 p.m. game at Tulane.

The ticket booth at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field opens exactly one hour before first pitch. Doubleheader tickets for Friday are $13 for adults and $9 for children (ages 3-12). Southeastern students are admitted free with a valid university ID card.

Southeastern Athletics has instituted a clear bag policy for all ticketed events, effective with the start of the 2018 fall semester.
