HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana cracked the national rankings Monday, surging into the Collegiate Baseball poll following an undefeated week that included wins over Purdue and then No. 19-ranked Mississippi State.

Winners of five straight and nine of their last 10 games, the Lions are ranked No. 28 in the poll. They join fellow Southland Conference-foe Sam Houston State (No. 24) ahead of previously unranked East Carolina and Texas State in the publication’s Top 30 rankings.

This past Tuesday, Mason Knopp and Will Warren combined on a two-hit shutout of Purdue, with the Lions defeating the Boilermakers, 4-0.

Wednesday, Southeastern continued is diamond domination of Mississippi State with an 11-5 win at MGM Park in Biloxi, Mississippi. The Lions rallied from a four-run deficit to extend their winning streak over the Bulldogs to six straight.

Over the weekend, Southeastern swept a conference series at Lamar to remain one game back of Sam Houston State in the Southland standings.

It marks the second time Southeastern has joined the rankings during the regular season, enjoying an eight-week stint during the 2010 season. The Lions shot as high as No. 17 that season (March 15, 2010 – Collegiate Baseball). Collegiate Baseball also ranked Southeastern No. 36 in its 2017 preseason poll.

Southeastern wraps up its six-game road trip this week with games Tuesday at South Alabama and Wednesday at Jackson State, returning home to host Houston Baptist in a Southland Conference series Friday-Sunday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
