LHSCA’s Virtual Clinic features impressive list of speakers
Since mid-March, the emergence of the novel coronavirus has played an unfortunate role in high school sports in Louisiana.
From playing the boys basketball state championships in an empty Burton Coliseum in mid-March to…..shutting down spring sport seasons in mid-April to…..delaying the start of workouts as per LHSAA summer rules to…..watching every press conference featuring John Bel Edwards and becoming experts on the “phases” and how it relates to high school sports, it has been the most unusual four months for the Louisiana prep scene since Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005.
Also falling victim to the coronavirus was the annual summer Coaches Convention hosted by the Louisiana High School Coaches Association. The event was returning to its longtime, familiar spot on the calendar in late July at the Crowne Plaza in Baton Rouge. Attendance promised to increase with the move back to its traditional spot, but because of the Coronavirus, the LHSCA had to cancel the in-person event and make it virtual. It will run from July 20th through July 23rd.
The 2020 LHSCA Virtual Clinic promises to be a tremendous professional development experience for athletic directors, administrators, and especially coaches in ALL sports.
For the first time in history, all 16 sanctioned sports and 2 non-sanctioned sports with the LHSAA will be represented by speakers who will share their ideas and expertise with clinic attendees. This event will feature over 130 speakers representing colleges/universities from around the country at every division/level. Professional coaches will dot the schedule along with many speakers in areas of professional development and sports performance as well.
Of course, the vast majority of speakers will represent the great state of Louisiana from high school and college/university ranks. The LHSCA Virtual Clinic will welcome high school coaches from Arkansas who saw their clinic cancelled due to the Coronavirus.
