LHSAA Softball Playoff Roundup: Hahnville and Riverside win, Haynes falls just short

Hahnville and Riverside Academy advanced to the state quarterfinals in Sulphur with victories Thursday while Haynes fell just short of doing so.

The second-seeded Lady Tigers whipped 18th seed East Ascension, 9-1, in the Class 5A regional round at Boutte Thursday in a game seen live at Crescent City Sports.

In the Division III playoffs, sixth seed Riverside Academy ripped 11th seed McGehee 16-0 at Reserve in a game shortened to three innings by the Mercy rule.

It was the Lexi Johnson show. Johnson did not allow a hit, striking out four to pick up the win. At the plate, Johnson achieved a rarity, blasting a grand small and a two-run home run in an 11-run first inning for the Rebels. Abby Bourgeois was 2-for-2 with three RBI for Riverside (9-14). Peyton Kullender took the loss for the Hawks (10-10).

Riverside advances to Sulphur next week to face third-seed St. Thomas Aquinas at Frasch Park. The third-seeded Falcons thrashed 14th seed St. Katharine Drexel 15-0 in three innings Wednesday.

In Division II, it was 11th-seeded E.D. White Catholic emerging with a 3-2 victory over sixth seed Haynes at the JPRD Complex in Metairie.

Morgan Rodrigue pitched a complete game three-hitter, striking out three to pick up the win for the Cardinals (13-14). Olivia Indorf allowed just four hits but took the loss for the Yellow Jackets (12-11). Haynes had six errors while E.D. White Catholic committed five.

The Cardinals advance to Sulphur to face third-seeded St. Charles Catholic in the quarterfinals. The Comets drilled 14th seed Ursuline 10-0 in five innings Friday.
