Select schools voted to turn down the LHSAA’s offer to be part of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Prep Classic at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in December.

The five classification championships for non-select schools will keep their title games Dec. 12-14 in the Dome, while the four select divisions will choose between the on-campus stadiums at Tulane, Southeastern and UL Lafayette for their championship games the previous weekend.

A total of 39 select football schools voted to not play in the Prep Classic, while 32 voted in favor of playing in the annual event, according results of a vote by select school administrators that the LHSAA released Thursday afternoon.

Earlier this year, LHSAA members voted to allow select schools to hold separate championships in football, boys and girls basketball, baseball and softball. Two weeks ago, the LHSAA executive committee voted to extend an olive branch to select schools to again be a part of the LHSAA Prep Classic, which has been played in the Dome 37 of the last 38 years.
