LHSAA sets schedule for football Game of the Week broadcasts

The Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) announces the return of the “Game of the Week” football broadcasts. The Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Thursday Night Game of the Week will showcase the most highly anticipated high school football games across Louisiana. The LHSAA is proud to partner with Crescent City Sports to stream each week’s game live from the LHSAA Live App.

Last night’s matchup showcased Class 4A sixth ranked Warren Easton Eagles versus Class 3A eighth ranked De La Salle Cavaliers at Tad Gormley Stadium. Already without their starting quarterback, the cavaliers were clearly challenged up against an elite and physical Warren Easton squad Thursday night. De La Salle then lost star running back Montrell Johnson to an injury in the first quarter. Even under those circumstances, the Eagles were down eight points going into the half. Warren Easton exploded for 30 points in the second half to win the game with a final score of 36-28.

Next week’s matchup showcases Class 3A fourth ranked Iota Bulldogs versus Class 2A sixth ranked Welsh Greyhounds. The Iota Bulldogs were a surprising contender last year taking their undefeated regular season all the way to the state semi-finals, where they lost the contest to Sterlington. The Bulldogs will be playing with a young starting quarterback Dawson Wallace who looks to repeat last year’s success.

The opposing side features the Welsh Greyhounds, who finished their season last year with a trip to the Dome losing the contest to the Amite Warriors. The Greyhounds are a young team that is eager for the long journey back to the Superdome.
