Kansas decided to cut ties with football coach Dave Beaty at the conclusion of the ’18 campaign. The Jayhawks have gone 6-39 under Beaty’s watch, with a 3-5 mark thus far this season.

Where might KU go next? There are a handful of names who could be headed to Lawrence. One is known well in these parts.

Former LSU head coach Les Miles, who will be 65 years old this week, is a name to watch. He had previous links with Houston, Purdue, Minnesota, Western Michigan, Oregon State and Arizona. Miles might even be a frontrunner.

Troy’s 38-year old head coach Neal Brown has guided the Trojans to a 7-2 record this season, after 10-3 mark in 2016 and 11-2 last season.

Army’s Troy Monken, with three consecutive bowl appearances already, has his squad at 7-2 after posting a 10-3 record in 2017.

North Carolina State’s Dave Doeren is 6-2 this fall with the Wolfpack. He was 9-4 last season, with a 63-36 record in eight seasons at Northern Illinois and NC State. He was a former Jayhawk assistant under Mark Mangino.

Alabama offensive coordinator Mike Locksley had previous head coaching stints at Maryland and New Mexico.

Appalachian State’s Scott Satterfield has led the Mountaineers to three FCS national crowns ina successful jump to the FBS level.

Tulane’s Willie Fritz’s name has come up as well.

The Kansas search committee has not formulated a plan as of yet, so much is speculated at this point.
