Leka Sodade joins Tulane Women’s Basketball as Graduate Assistant
Sodade will be heading to Tulane from the University at Buffalo
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane women’s basketball coach Lisa Stockton announced the addition of Ayoleka (Leka) Sodade as the Green Wave’s new graduate assistant on Wednesday. Sodade will begin her tenure with the team in August.
Sodade recently earned her bachelor’s degree in health and human service from the University at Buffalo following a stellar four-year career for the Bulls that included three NCAA Tournament appearances.
“Leka will be great addition to our staff,” Stockton said. “Her energy and enthusiasm for basketball set her apart from the other candidates for the job. I see our players connecting immediately with Leka.”
A native of Windsor, Ontario, Sodade helped Buffalo to three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances including a run to the Sweet 16 in 2018. Buffalo also made the second round of the NCAA tournament during her senior year. Besides her success with the Bulls, Sodade earned an invitation to the Nigerian Women’s Basketball National Team Camp in 2017 and 2018.
Off the court, she held internships at Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore during the course of her studies. At Johns Hopkins Hospital, Sodade observed orthopedic surgeries, recording notes and learning how to manage surgeries and work with patients.
With the Kennedy Krieger Institute, she performed research on neurological conditions including strokes and Parkinson’s disease. Sodade also studied past cases to work toward a greater understanding of neurological conditions.
A volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and the Newman Center Church in Buffalo, Sodade will be working toward a master’s degree in public health at Tulane. She is a native of Windsor, Ontario.
