IRVING, Texas – After an impressive weekend that saw the Louisiana Tech baseball team complete a series sweep of Old Dominion, and clinch the no. 2 seed in the upcoming Conference USA Tournament, Tech pitcher David Leal was named the C-USA Pitcher of the Week, league officials announced Sunday.

Leal joins teammates Parker Bates, Dalton Skelton, Mason Robinson, Matt Miller and Logan Robbins, as Bulldogs who have all earned weekly recognition from the league this season.

Leal continued his run as one of the top pitchers in Conference USA this past weekend. The normal midweek starter made just his second start in league play on Thursday, and was dominant throughout. The southpaw tossed seven innings, allowing just run one. He scattered just four hits, struck out four, and did not walk a batter. Most impressively, Leal needed only 76 pitches to cruise through seven innings of work.

For the season, Leal lowered his ERA to 2.03. He has struck out 77 batters, while walking just nine. In his 13 appearances, he has not walked a batter in eight of them.

Leal and the Bulldogs will prepare for a first-round matchup with the seventh-seeded Rice Owls in the Conference USA Championship on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ESPN3 and through the Watch ESPN app.
