HAMMOND, La. – Former Lion standout Lawrence Allan has been named the new head golf coach at Southeastern Louisiana University, SLU Director of Athletics Jay Artigues announced on Monday.

Allan’s hire is pending approval of the University of Louisiana System’s Board of Supervisors. Allan replaces Jake Narro, who led the Lions to the 2022 Southland Conference championship and resigned to pursue other professional opportunities.

“Lawrence was an excellent golfer here and knows what it takes to be successful at this level,” Artigues commented. “We’re excited to see Lawrence grow our program and build on the commitment to excellence in the classroom, the community and competition that Coach Narro established over the past several years.”

A native of Alva, Scotland, Allan was a three-time All-Southland Conference performer from 2012-16 at SLU. Allan was part of the 2013 Southland Conference championship team and a pair of NCAA Regional participants. A two-time Cleveland Golf/Srixon Academic All-American, Allan earned his degree in sports management in 2016.

Following his time in Hammond, Allan went on to play professionally in Europe, spending time on the PGA EuroPro Tour, the Challenge Tour and APT Tour. He also served as the assistant golf pro at the Dullator Golf Club in his native Scotland.

“When I first came to Southeastern, I was terrified because I’d never been to the United States,” Allan commented. “But the Southeastern and Hammond communities made me feel so welcome. I’m thankful to our administration for the opportunity to give back to the program and university that’s so special to me.”

Allan wants to continue to build on the program’s success.

“Coach Narro has done a tremendous job with our program,” Allan said. “I’m looking forward to continuing the positive momentum.”

Southeastern is scheduled to open the 2022-23 season Sept. 19-20 at the Grover Page Classic in Jackson, Tennessee.
