No changes at top of soccer rankings; Fontainebleau scores big win

With the regular season approaching its close, the top four teams in each classification remain the same in the latest Louisiana High School Soccer Coaches Association rankings for Feb. 1

In Division I, Jesuit is still No. 1 with Catholic second and St. Paul’s third. Denham Springs is fourth with Captain Shreve fifth. Brother Martin is eighth.

Holy Cross remains the top-ranked team in Division II, despite letting a lead get away in a loss to Brother Martin. St. Thomas More is second with Ben Franklin third, Benton fourth and Neville fifth. East Jefferson is seventh with Bonnabel and Belle Chasse tied for eighth.

Lusher Charter is still No. 1 in Division III with University High second. Parkview Baptist is third, Loyola Prep is fourth and North Vermilion is No. 5.

Pope John Paul continues to hold the top spot in Division IV with Episcopal of Acadiana second. Episcopal is third, Northlake Christian is fourth and Catholic of New Iberia is fifth. Newman is sixth with Country Day ninth.

In boys action Monday, Fontainebleau scored an important 2-1 victory over rival Mandeville at home.

The Bulldogs led 1-0 at halftime.

George Gonzales scored both both goals for Fontainebleau while Ben Rabalais was outstanding in goal for the Bulldogs.

Mandeville was 12th while Fontainebleau was 24th in the most recent LHSAA Division I power rankings.

Fontainebleau (10-6-7) closes out its regular season today at Ponchatoula at 5:30 p.m. in District 4-1 action while the Skippers are now 12-8 overall, 3-2 in district play ahead of the playoffs.
