NEW ORLEANS – Devonta Jason made the long-awaited decision two weeks ago, but kept it under wraps.

The five-star wide receiver from Landry-Walker will join his former Charging Buccaneer teammate, quarterback Keytaon Thompson, at Mississippi State. Jason made it official Wednesday by signing a national letter-of-intent.

“Having a quarterback like Keytaon Thompson was special to me,” Jason said. “He played a big part (in the decision). I played three years with him and he’s a dominant player. I picture myself doing the same thing on the next level.”

Jason was emotional at the podium when he announced his decision.

“I had to work for everything I got,” said Jason, who did not take any official visits.

Three of Jason’s teammates, all defensive backs, also signed national letters of intent Wednesday – Corione Harris with Kansas, Ty’wan Francis to Colorado State and Curry Benn to Southern Miss.

All four are expected to enroll at their new schools in January.
