HAMMOND, La. – The Lamar Cardinals pounded out a season-high 20 hits Sunday on the way to a 12-4 win over the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team in Southland Conference action at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field, sweeping the three-game series.

Led by left fielder Kevin Bermudez’ four-hit performance, seven different Lamar (25-18, 9-9 SLC) hitters picked up multiple hits in the game against Southeastern (19-21, 4-11 SLC) pitching.

The Cardinals, who scored an unearned run in the first inning, tacked on a single run in the third, three in the fourth and two more in the fifth before adding five runs in the final two innings to complete their scoring.

Meanwhile, Lamar starting pitcher Patrick Hail (3-0) kept the Lion hitters off balance en route to earning the win. He allowed just two runs through 5.2 innings, scattering five hits and three walks. Hail struck out two.

Three SLU hitters turned in multi-hit performances at the plate, led by McGwire Turner. The freshman from Helena, Alabama enjoyed the first three-hit game of his career. His solo home run leading off the fifth provided the Lions’ first run of the game and he drove in another run with a two-out single in the sixth.

Michael Curry and Shea Thomas also provided a pair of hits each for Southeastern.

Brennan Stuprich (3-4), the first of five pitchers used by the Lions, suffered the loss. The right-hander allowed seven runs – six earned – on 11 hits in 4.0 innings pitched. He walked two and struck out two.
