Lakeshore wins again; River Ridge, Ponstein’s play to tie

After a highly successful prep season, Lakeshore continues to play well in the Crescent City Sports Prep Summer League.

Lakeshore defeated Pope John Paul II 10-8 Tuesday in Slidell.

Gavin Stein picked up the win, his first of the season.

Lakeshore built an 10-3 lead but the Jaguars fought back and got the tying run to the plate.

Lakeshore scored four runs in the second, two in the second and four in the top of the sixth inning. Lakeshore had 10 hits and committed five errors.

Mason Prinzo was 3 for 4 with a pair of RBI for the Titans.

Lakeshore (4-1) will play Thursday at home against De La Salle.

The John Curtis Christian-based River Ridge Patriots and the Holy Cross-based Ponstein’s Food Store played to a 3-3 tie at Mike Miley Stadium in a game called after eight innings.

The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Ryder Planchard.

The Patriots erased the deficit, taking a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first on a 2-run, inside-the-park home run by Dagan Bruno.

Ponstein’s recaptured the lead in the top of the second at 3-2 on an RBI single by Jeffrey Louis and a sacrifice fly by Forstall.

River Ridge (2-1-1) answered with a run in the bottom of the second to make it 3-3 on an RBI single by Dylan Gilbert.

Will Andrade, Ross Klein and Jake Gegenheimer pitched for Ponstein’s.

Aiden Carr started and gave up three runs in two innings before Tony Macaluso and Aiden Austin combined for six scoreless innings for the Patriots.

Ponstein’s (1-1-1) had nine hits while River Ridge had five hits.

Both teams return to action Thursday. River Ridge will host St. Augustine-based Chapter IV Restaurant at Harahan Playground while Ponstein’s will host the Mandeville-based Gulf Coast Bank & Trust Skippers at Tiger Park.
