Lake Charles College Prep needed to replace Mack Guillory who resigned in March following a quarterfinal trip and 26-8 record. A state-wide search for a new boys basketball coach ended up with the hiring of West Jefferson High School head coach Kevin Hunt.

“He turned West Jeff around and made them a contender. He also started the program at Sophie B. Wright and hired its current head coach,” LCCP athletic director Freddie Harrison told KPLC-TV. “But what stood out the most was that he’s not in it for himself. He is fully committed to putting kids first.”

Hunt was a successful coach in Arkansas, making consecutive state title game appearances before moving to the state for the coach and AD positions at Wright. He later became an assistant coach in Jefferson Parish before landing the job at West Jeff. He posted three winning seasons with the Buccaneers.
