After surviving a 50-48 semifinal victory over previously unbeaten St. Thomas Aquinas earlier in the day, LaGrange was poised to claim a championship in the Girls’ Platinum Bracket championship game of the Allstate Sugar Bowl National Prep Classic at the Alario Center Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Gators completed the feat, whipping three-time Division I state champion John Curtis Christian 57-42 in a game seen live at CrescentCitySports.com.

LaGrange (16-2) established control early, going on a 9-0 run in the first quarter and led 22-8 by the end of the quarter on the strength of eight points by Aasia Sam.

The Lady Patriots (11-2) fought back in the second quarter, cutting the deficit to 29-23 but that is as close as Curtis would get in the contest. LaGrange led 30-23 by halftime.

The Lady Gators put the game away with a 13-0 run in the third quarter and led 45-27 going to the final quarter and coasted to victory.

Aasia Sam topped LaGrange with 19 points while Jeriah Warren, the Most Outstanding Player in the tournament, finished with 15 points and seven rebounds.

Tulane signee Jerkaila Jordan scored 25 points and had seven rebounds to lead Curtis.
