Lady Lions Draw Rutgers in Opening Round of NCAA Tournament

HAMMOND, La. – After earning an automatic bid into the 2020 NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament this past Saturday, the Southeastern Louisiana women’s soccer team will play Rutgers in the opening round of the tournament Tuesday, April 27 in Buis Creek, North Carolina at 6 p.m. central time at Eakes Athletic Complex.

The Lady Lions (8-2-4) punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament after beating Sam Houston in the Southland Conference Tournament Championship Saturday afternoon. SLU enters the NCAA Tournament on an 11-match unbeaten streak (7-0-4).

Southeastern will be making their fourth NCAA Tournament appearance (2009, 2013, 2015) as they look for the first tournament victory, not only in program history, but Southland Conference history.

Rutgers (8-3-3, 6-2-3 Big 10) lost in the Big 10 semifinals to Wisconsin Thursday by a 2-1 score. The Scarlet Knights are making their ninth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament, including a semifinal appearance in 2015.

“We’re excited to be here,” said SLU head coach Chris McBride. “We’re excited to play against a quality opponent like Rutgers. They play some really good soccer there so it’s going to be a challenge for us. But we’re going to have fun getting ready for that game and hopefully we can go in as prepared as possible.”
