DALLAS – Louisiana Tech Track & Field’s Tyler Griggers has been named one of 14 Conference USA student-athletes to earn the Air Force Reserve C-USA Spirit of Service Award for the spring, it was announced by the league office on Thursday.

Conference USA’s Spirit of Service Award is designed to recognize the community service efforts of the league’s top student-athletes, based upon significant community service, good academic standing and participation in their elected sport. The Spirit of Service Award is presented three times throughout the season with today’s honorees representing spring sports: baseball, men’s and women’s golf, softball, men’s and women’s outdoor track and men’s and women’s tennis.

This past spring, Griggers pitched in to help with disaster relief clean-up efforts and fundraisers following the EF3 tornado that came through Louisiana Tech’s campus on April 25. Additionally, Griggers has volunteered his time with the Special Olympics and at the DART Pumpkin Patch.

In the classroom, Griggers is a 5-time member of the LA Tech AD Honor Roll, while he was named to the President’s List this past spring and was on the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the 2015-16 academic year.

As a junior, Griggers finished the season ranked eighth in Conference USA in the javelin with a season-best throw of 195’0” (59.45m) at the Drake Relays, while he closed out the 2019 outdoor campaign with a pair of top 10 finishes in the javelin. In 2018, Griggers represented the Bulldogs in the javelin throw at the NCAA Track & Field East Preliminary Championships. Overall, he has totaled 14 top 10 finishes in the javelin over the course of his career at LA Tech.
