RUSTON – Louisiana Tech outfielder Manny Garcia has been selected to play in the Collegiate Summer Baseball Invitational from June 4-6 in Bryan, Texas.

The tournament will provide collegiate players from all over the nation with an opportunity to showcase their talents ahead of next season and the 2020 MLB draft, scheduled for June 10-11.

Garcia is a member of Team Independence and will open the tournament on June 4 at 9 p.m. The opening doubleheader will be broadcast on ESPN2 with Jason Benetti and Kyle Peterson calling the action. Fans can watch all six games of the tournament for $39.95 with a percentage of the proceeds benefiting No Kid Hungry.

For his career, Garcia has totaled up 27 hits and 6 home runs in a Bulldog uniform. He closed the 2020 season on a four-game hitting streak and had reached base at least once in the last seven games of the year.

Garcia graduated from Louisiana Tech in May but can choose to return to Ruston next season thanks to the NCAA’s approval of extra eligibility for spring student-athletes.

In the interest of player safety, players, coaches, staff, and scouts were tested for COVID-19 upon arrival at the tournament. They will remain quarantined together for the duration of the CSBI. More information on safety protocols is available on the CSBI website.
