LA Tech’s Bates named C-USA Co-Hitter of the Week

IRVING, Texas – After a banner week that saw Louisiana Tech stake a huge series win over No. 9 Southern Miss, Tech sophomore centerfielder Parker Bates was named the Conference USA Co-Hitter of the Week, league officials announced Monday.

Bates joins teammates Dalton Skelton and Mason Robinson who have also earned Hitter of the Week accolades earlier this season. Bulldog pitchers Matt Miller and Logan Robbins earned Pitcher of the Week honors earlier this year as well.

In four games last week, Bates notched at least one hit in every game, while driving in a team-high seven runs – taking the team lead in the RBI category with 42.

In Sunday’s rubber match against the Golden Eagles, Bates drove home a career-high four RBI, while scoring a run. In his four games last week, Bates posted a team-high OBP of .579, while also leading the team with a .417 batting average.

In conference action, Bates’ 27 RBI are fourth-most among league leaders. He also ranks second with nine doubles in league play.

Bates and the Diamond ‘Dogs wrap up the 2018 regular season at home, with a three –game series versus Old Dominion on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
