LA Tech’s Amaya Brannon Named C-USA Freshman of the Week

Ruston, La. – Louisiana Tech freshman Amaya Brannon was named the Conference USA Freshman of the Week Monday following her performances in the Lady Techsters first two games of the 2021-22 season.

Brannon, who became just the 13th true freshman since the start of the 2000-01 season to start the season opener for the Lady Techsters, averaged 12.5 points and 5.0 rebounds while shooting 58 percent from the field (11-19) and 50 percent from the three-point line.

During the week, Brannon scored 11 points and grabbed four rebounds while drawing three charges as Tech cruised to a 103-53 win over Jarvis Christian College to open the season.

She added to her very impressive performance with 14 points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal in Tech’s dominate 95-48 win over LSU-Alexandria. Brannon hit 6-of-7 field goals, going 2-of 2 from behind the arc against LSU-Alexandria.

This is the first Conference USA Freshman of the Week award for the Plano, Texas native and for the Lady Techsters since Tyler Jackson collected the award on December 14, 2020.

Brannon will lead Louisiana Tech in Friday night’s match-up against Ole Miss in Oxford, Miss.
