LA Tech men’s basketball release 2019-20 schedule
RUSTON – Louisiana Tech head coach Eric Konkol announced on Wednesday the 2019-20 Bulldog Basketball schedule which features 16 home games, plus the Hoops 4 Disaster Relief exhibition versus LSU.
The exhibition contest against the Tigers will take place on Nov. 2 inside the Thomas Assembly Center with all of the proceeds going directly to the University Disaster Relief Fund which will benefit the disaster relief efforts stemming from the tornado.
The regular season then gets underway on Nov. 6 when LA Tech plays at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
“Beginning with the Hoops 4 Disaster Relief game versus LSU in Ruston, we are playing a strong and balanced schedule, both home and away,” said Konkol who enters his fifth season at the helm. “This year’s non-conference schedule will challenge and provide us great opportunities to learn about our team.
“Playing teams in the non-conference with recent success in their league and in the postseason will prepare us for an exciting Conference USA schedule.”
The Bulldogs will then have their home opener against Wiley College on Nov. 12, followed by a trip to Omaha, Nebraska to face Creighton on Nov. 16.
LA Tech will return to the TAC to host Mississippi Valley State and North Alabama before playing in historic Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Indiana against the Hoosiers on Nov. 25.
The month of November will round out with a home game versus Samford. The ‘Dogs open up December with back-to-back games at Mississippi State and Sam Houston State on Dec. 5 and 8, respectively. The Starkville Bulldogs are coming off an NCAA Tournament appearance and the Bearkats are the reigning Southland Conference regular season champions.
The non-conference slate rounds out with three straight home games versus Louisiana-Lafayette in the 165th meeting against the in-state foe, as well as North Carolina Central and Southern-New Orleans.
Just like last season, the C-USA schedule will consist of a 14-game preset schedule and in the final weeks, the Bulldogs will take on four opponents (five dates available) as part of bonus play with two of those coming at home and two on the road. Opponents, dates and times will be determined on Feb. 15.
LA Tech will take on its travel partner Southern Miss twice which will be the first two games of the conference schedule. The Bulldogs will battle the Golden Eagles in Hattiesburg on Dec. 30 and then in Ruston on Jan. 4.
The team will then go up against all of the other league opponents one time through the remainder of the preset schedule. The ‘Dogs will host Rice, North Texas, FIU, Florida Atlantic, Charlotte and defending C-USA regular season and tournament champion Old Dominion.
They will travel to take on UTSA, UTEP, Middle Tennessee, UAB, WKU and Marshall.
The 2020 C-USA Tournament will be hosted at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas on March 11-14, the third straight year it has been held at this venue.
