Linebacker Kyle Cannon of St. Charles Catholic has been named as the R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl Prep Player of the Week in the Greater New Orleans area for week 14 by CrescentCitySports.com, Ken Trahan’s Original Prep Football Report on NASH ICON 106.1 FM, the Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club and Friday Night Football on WNOL/WGNO.

A sophomore, Cannon was superb as the third-seeded Comets completed an unbeaten season by shocking top seed and four-time defending state champion Lafayette Christian 32-27 in the Division III state championship game at Yulman Stadium.

Cannon led St. Charles Catholic with 11 tackles, including nine solo tackles and three tackles for loss. Cannon recorded an interception and he recovered a botched snap on a punt attempt for the game-winning touchdown. Cannon was named the game’s Most Outstanding Player for St. Charles Catholic.

“Kyle started the season as a role player and every week, we felt he grew up,” Stein said. “We think he has a bright, bright future and will be a big prospect. We had some injuries and he stepped in. He played every single snap and played great. He just did a great job for us in all phases of the game. The sky is the limit for him. He fit right in for our team which played for one another and he is tough and hard-nosed like our entire team.”

Cannon will be honored at the year-end awards meeting of the Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club on Dec. 14 at noon at Rock’n’Bowl.
