Kinzeler named Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week again

HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana right-hander Will Kinzeler earned Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week honors for his series-opening performance in Beaumont, Texas this past weekend, the conference office announced Monday afternoon. The Southland’s weekly awards are presented by Hercules Tires.

Kinzeler (3-1) earned the win in Friday’s 3-0 Lion victory at Lamar, allowing just a fourth-inning single over seven shutout frames. He walked four and struck out seven. The victory sparked Southeastern to a series sweep of the Cardinals that moved the Lions into sole possession of first place in the conference standings.

This is Kinzeler’s second conference weekly award of the season. The freshman from Covington, Louisiana was previously named the Southland’s pitcher of the week earlier this month following his 13-strikeout performance against Tulane.

Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.

Southeastern returns home next weekend to host McNeese in a four-game series at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field. Games are scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Friday and a single game at 1 p.m. Saturday. The first game of Friday’s doubleheader is slated to be a seven-inning contest. If the first game goes extra innings, the second game would then become a seven-inning affair.

All remaining home games are slated to be broadcast on ESPN+.
