NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans Athletics announced today the promotion of Keshia Williams to head athletic trainer. Williams joined the Privateers in December of 2018 as the athletic trainer for women’s basketball and women’s tennis before shifting to baseball and golf in 2019.

The proud Cleveland Browns fan is in her third full season with the Privateers and fourth overall. She is a pivotal member of the Ochsner Sports Medicine staff and COVID-19 Task Force and will continue to work with baseball and golf, while also joining the athletic department’s senior staff.

“It’s an honor to serve as #NOLAsTeam head athletic trainer,” said Williams. “I embrace the journey to elevate our student-athletes in their quest for success on the field. I want to thank Ochsner Sports Medicine and (VP of Athletics & Recreation) Tim Duncan for entrusting me with this new role.”

“At Ochsner Sports Medicine Institute, we take pride in promoting hard working dedicated athletic trainers,” said Jordan Blough, Ochsner Sports Medicine Institute Athletic Training Outreach Program Supervisor. “Keshia is more than deserving of this leadership opportunity at The University of New Orleans. She is passionate about athletic training and ensuring comprehensive healthcare is provided to every student-athlete she treats. Her passion for athletic training will take UNO Sports Medicine to the next level.”

“Keshia is very deserving of this promotion,” said Vice President of Athletics & Recreation Tim Duncan. “She has the experience, sports medicine acumen and relationship building skills to greatly enhance our student-athlete experience. Kudos to our partners at Ochsner Sports Medicine and former Deputy Athletic Director/COO Dena Freeman-Patton for grooming Keshia to be in the position to take this next step in her career journey.”

“I also want to thank Nick Holtgrieve for his service at #NOLAsTeam,” added Duncan. “He did a great job during his time here and left the program in a much better place than when he arrived.”

Williams is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and earned her Bachelor of Science in athletic training from Ashland University in 2012.

Joining Williams are Monica Kimmel (cheer, beach volleyball, volleyball), Rebecca Appelt (women’s basketball, women’s tennis), Alyssa Reyes (track and field, cross country) and one sports medicine professional to work with men’s basketball and men’s tennis.
