For the second time in three years, Justin Veitch of Kenner has advanced to the match play portion of the United States Bowling Congress Masters.

After competing for the last three days against 390 of the world’s best bowlers, Veitch is the No. 17 seed in the 64-player match play bracket after averaging more than 220 for 15 games of qualifying at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park, Michigan. (Full qualifying results)

Veitch will open match play against No. 48 seed Sean Rash of Montgomery, Illinois, a 17-time PBA champion, at 9 a.m. CDT Thursday. Early-round matches are three games, with total pins deciding the winner. (Bracket)

In 2021, Veitch just landed inside the cut but went 0-2 in the double-elimination bracket.

Fifteen-time major champion Jason Belmonte of Australia is the No. 1 seed, averaging nearly 237 in qualifying. Veitch and Belmonte could meet in the third round.

Denham Springs resident Mykel Holliman just missed the cut, finishing in 71st place. Holliman averaged just over 210 for qualifying and was 15 pins out of the 64th and final spot.

Bracket play continues through Friday, with a televised elimination round Friday night on FS1 setting the stage for Sunday’s championship final on FOX.
