Karr smothers Brother Martin to extend win streak
METAIRIE – After a close game Saturday night at Brother Martin, the Crusaders were looking for revenge Tuesday evening against Karr in the quarterfinals of the Country Day Classic.
Forget about it.
Karr had other ideas, doubling down on the first win with a convincing 52-32 win over the Crusaders.
The Cougars edged the Crusaders 51-46 at Brother Martin on Saturday night.
This one was close for one quarter.
Brother Martin played Karr on virtually even terms in the second and fourth quarters but the Cougars dominated the second and fourth quarters for an easy victory.
The issue for the Crusaders was the second quarter when Karr was smothering on the defensive end of the floor, holding Brother Martin scoreless.
It was 13-12 Cougars after one quarter and Karr closed the half on a 13-0 run and led 24-12 at the break. Karr increased the lead to 36-18 in the third quarter before Brother Martin cut the margin to 39-26 going to the fourth quarter.
Devin Lewis led the Cougars with 18 points, including 13 in the first half. Leland Smith added eight points. Jace Patin topped the Crusaders (13-2) with 15 points while Corey Skillman had 13 points.
Karr (11-2) has won seven straight games. The Cougars advance to the semifinals Wednesday at 6 p.m. to face the winner of the Sophie B. Wright vs. St. Thomas More contest.
