Karr-Belle Chasse; Easton-McMain highlights Thursday schedule
A pair of district games highlight the area Thursday night schedule this evening in prep football.
Two-time defending Class 4A state champion Karr has gone about its business in usual fashion, quietly posting an impressive 6-0 record with good wins over St. Paul’s, Landry-Walker, De La Salle, Carver J.F. Kennedy and McDonogh 35.
The Cougars are the clear No. 1 team in 4A again this year and it will take a huge performance to beat them.
Next up is Belle Chasse, who will host Karr tonight at 7 p.m. in a District 9-4A contest this evening.
The Cardinals (5-1) are coming off of their first loss, a 46-14 beating at the hands of highly ranked Warren Easton.
Belle Chasse is led by junior quarterback Jordan Mariana and senior running back Ralph Jones. Retray Gaines is the top receiver for the Cardinals.
Quarterback Leonard Kelly continues to improve and play very well for Karr. Kelly was 12-of-15 for 169 yards and four touchdowns in a 35-6 win over McDonogh 35 a week ago. Ahmad Antoine and Ronnie Jackson lead the rushing attack while Michael Corner is the top receiver.
Warren Easton (4-1) returns to District 9-4A action against McMain (2-4) at Pan American Stadium at 7 p.m.
Quarterback Lance Legendre continues to lead the Easton attack while UL-Lafayette commit Jahmal Sam filled in a running back a week ago and rushed for a 198 yards and four touchdowns. Kiaeem Green is the top receiver.
Jeremy Benoit is the top runner for McMain with 90 carries for 546 yards and six touchdowns while Tyrhe Brown has completed 56-of-111 passes for 690 yards with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions. Al Johnson has 23 catches for 317 yards and four touchdowns.
