AIKEN, S.C. – JPRD East completed an undefeated run through the Dixie Boys World Series Wednesday, capturing the championship with a 9-7 victory over Fairhope, Alabama.

The title in the division, for players age 14 and under, is the first for JPRD East since 2015.

JPRD broke open a scoreless game with two runs in the bottom of the third and seven more in the fourth, then held off a late comeback by the Alabama squad.

James Bendeck drove in three runs and pitched four innings to lead JPRD East, which scored 69 runs in its six victories in the tournament, including double-digit runs in four of the games.

Bendeck, who got the tournament started with a shutout over Virginia, was far from the only star in JPRD’s run to the title. Anthony Mouney had three hits in Tuesday’s win over Georgia to sew up the spot in the title game. Sully Stringer had a pair of four-hit games against the host Aiken team and Mississippi. Casey Avrard’s four-hit day keyed a victory over North Carolina.

It was nearly a triple crown for JPRD East. The 15-year-old team won the World Series last month, and the 13-year-olds came finished second in their division, losing Wednesday to Sumter, South Carolina in the final.
