RUSTON, La. – Bulldog starting pitcher Jonathan Fincher was named an NCBWA Third Team All-American on Wednesday afternoon, becoming Louisiana Tech’s eighth All-American in program history and the second Diamond Dog to earn All-America honors in 2021.

Fincher, a First Team All-Conference USA honoree and Dick Howser Award Semifinalist, led the Bulldog pitching staff in strikeouts (85), innings pitched (100.1) and the lowest opposing batting average against him (.219). The Shreveport, Louisiana native posted two complete-game shutouts in 2021, including a one-hit shutout at Tulane where he allowed just two baserunners in a Friday night start.

The left-hander dominated opposing offenses over a two-month span, logging nine straight quality starts from a home start against McNeese State on March 5 to a road start at Middle Tennessee on April 30. Fincher’s second complete-game shutout of the season came during that stretch as he struck out five batters and allowed just one walk to blank Rice in Houston.

Fincher earned C-USA Pitcher of the Week honors twice in 2021. He also exceled in the classroom after being one of two Bulldogs named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team.

Tech’s Friday night ace capped off his season by working eight innings and allowing just two runs on six hits in the Bulldogs’ Ruston NCAA Regional victory over Rider. Fincher’s eighth pitching victory helped him finish with an 8-3 record on the season with a 3.05 ERA and an 85-23 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Taylor Young was honored earlier in June as the other Diamond Dog to earn All-America honors. The second baseman earned Third Team All-American honors from Collegiate Baseball.
