Joe Burrow, Justin Jefferson among NFL MVP finalists

The legacy of the 2019 LSU Tigers national championship football team lives on and continues to grow. Two Tiger legends are now asking the NFL”s best.

Former Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Joe Burrow of Cincinnati and wide receiver Justin Jefferson of Minnesota are among five finalists announced for the NFL Most Valuable Player award.

In his third season, Burrow completed 414 of 606 passes (68.3%) for 4,475 yards with 35 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Burrow also rushed 75 times for 257 yards and five touchdowns and has the Bengals in the AFC championship Sunday at Kansas City.

Jefferson led the NFL in catches with 128 and in receiving yards with 1,809 with eight touchdowns in his third season with the Vikings.

The Destrehan product also rushed for a score and was a unanimous choice for All-Pro honors by the Associated Press, joining Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce as the only players voted to that honor in unanimous fashion. Jefferson helped lead the Vikings to the NFC playoffs.

The other finalists include Jalen Hurts of Philadelphia, Patrick Mahomes of Kansas City and Josh Allen of Buffalo.

The winner will be announced Super Bowl week at NFL Honors on Feb. 9. A panel of 50 media members voted on the award before the start of the playoffs.
