Jesuit wins cross country state title

Jesuit easily outdistanced Catholic of Baton Rouge to win the boys Class 5A cross country championship Tuesday at the Walter P. Ledet track and field complex at Northwestern State in Natchitoches.

The Blue Jays dominated with the top two finishers, three of the top four and six of the top 10 finishers on the 3-mile course.

Michael Vocke of Jesuit won the individual title in a time of 15:26.8 with teammate Jack Desroches second. Lucas Sampedro of Jesuit was fourth with teammates Robert Buisson and Brady Mullen sixth and tenth, respectively.

Ruston finished third with Brother Martin fourth and Mandeville fifth.

St. Joseph’s Academy won the girls 5A team title with Ruston second and Dominican the top local finisher, coming in third. Mount Carmel Academy was fourth with Mandeville coming in fifth.

Lily Garrett of Ruston was the individual champion in a time of 18:08.3.

Teurlings Catholic won the boys 4A state championship with Cameron Kelly of the Rebels winning the individual title in a time of 16:14. Belle Chasse finished second with St. Michael third, Vandebilt Catholic fourth and Lusher Charter fifth.

Vandebilt Catholic won the girls 4A team title with St. Michael second. Teurlings Catholic was third, St. Scholastica finished fourth and St. Thomas More was fifth.

Parkview Baptist captured the boys 3A state championship with E.D. White Catholic second. Univerity High was third with Loyola Prep fourth and Erath fifth.

John Hall Hays of University High was the individual champion in a time of 16:29.

E.D. White Catholic won the girls state 3A title with Academy of The Sacred Heart of New Orleans finishing second. University High was third with St. Louis Catholic fourth and West Feliciana fifth.

Saige Christen of Patrick Taylor Academy won the individual title in a time of 19:18.
